BMW X2 M35i — the underrated hot crossover with real tuning potential

I picked up a 2024 X2 M35i and I think this car is seriously underrated in the BMW lineup. The B48 engine makes 300hp stock and with a stage 1 tune you can push it to around 340-350hp. The xDrive system handles the power well and the car feels much more agile than you would expect from a crossover. The suspension is firm but not harsh, and the steering is direct for a BMW SUV. My current mods: - BM3 stage 1 tune on 98 octane - Wagner intercooler upgrade - Eventuri intake The car feels genuinely quick now. It will embarrass a lot of sports cars at the traffic lights while looking like a normal crossover. The sleeper factor is real. Anyone else have an X2? Thinking about going stage 2 with a catless downpipe but worried about warranty implications.

I have an X2 M35i as well and can confirm the tuning potential is excellent. The B48 in the M35i is the same engine as the M135i and responds very well to a stage 1 tune. I am running a JB4 piggyback tune and seeing about 330hp at the wheels. For stage 2, the catless downpipe on the B48 makes a noticeable difference in turbo spool and top-end power. But be aware that the B48 in the X2 uses a different exhaust routing than the M340i B58, so make sure you get the correct downpipe for your specific model. Regarding warranty — if you are still under warranty, the JB4 is a good option because it is undetectable when removed. A flash tune like BM3 leaves traces in the ECU even after reflashing to stock.

The X2 M35i is basically an M135i with a different body. Same engine, same xDrive system, same tuning potential. I chose the M135i over the X2 but both are great platforms. One upgrade I would recommend for any B48 car is the charge pipe. The stock plastic charge pipe can crack under increased boost pressure from a tune. An aluminum charge pipe from VRSF or FTP Motorsport is about 150 EUR and eliminates that risk.
