The N62 V8 in the E63 645ci is known for problems but most are manageable:

  1. Valve stem seals (blue smoke on startup) - 2000 EUR fix
  2. Coolant transfer pipe leak - 800 EUR
  3. Alternator bracket gasket - 400 EUR
  4. VANOS issues - 1000 EUR

If you buy one with these already fixed, its actually a reliable car. The V8 sound is incredible and the car looks timeless.

Anyone else daily driving an E63?

The N62 is a great engine when maintained but has some well-known issues. The valve stem seals are the biggest one - they harden and cause oil burning, especially on cold start. Replacement is about 2000-3000 EUR. The Valvetronic motor and eccentric shaft sensor also fail. Coolant transfer pipe behind the intake manifold is another common leak point. Budget 1000-1500 EUR per year for maintenance on these.

Had an E63 650i for 3 years. Beautiful car but the N62 ate my wallet. Valve stem seals at 120k km, alternator bracket leak, and the Valvetronic motor died twice. If you buy one, get a pre-purchase inspection from a BMW specialist. Check for blue smoke on startup - thats the valve seals.
