What ConnectedDrive / My BMW Can Do

Remote Functions

Remote Software Upgrade

• OTA updates for iDrive and some modules

Digital Key

• Use your iPhone or Samsung as a car key

Common Issues

1. App Won't Connect to Car

• Most common issue
• Causes: Car's SIM card inactive, poor cellular coverage, server issues
• Fix: Check BMW ConnectedDrive subscription status. Restart the app. Restart the car's telematics (pull the TCB fuse for 30 seconds).

2. Remote Lock/Unlock Not Working

• Car must have cellular connectivity
• Some functions require an active ConnectedDrive subscription
• Check if the feature is included in your subscription tier

3. Digital Key Unreliable

• iPhone digital key uses NFC — phone must be close to the door handle
• Battery saver mode on the phone can disable NFC
• Some phone cases interfere with NFC
• Fix: Remove case, ensure NFC is enabled, hold phone closer

4. Climate Pre-Conditioning Fails

• Requires sufficient fuel/charge
• May not work if battery is low
• Some models require the car to be in a ventilated area

5. Subscription Expired

• Many ConnectedDrive features require an active subscription
• BMW offers different tiers (some free, some paid)
• Check your subscription status in the My BMW app or BMW ConnectedDrive portal

Is It Worth Paying For?

The free tier includes basic remote functions. Paid tiers add:
