Daily drove an M2 Comp for 2 years. The ride is firm but not punishing. Adaptive suspension helps a lot in comfort mode. The S55 maintenance is similar to any turbo BMW - oil changes, spark plugs, nothing crazy if you stay stock.
The M2 Comp is special though. The way it drives, the sound, the size - its the last of a breed. The M240i is great but its not an M car.
went M240i and have zero regrets. its 90% of the M2 Comp driving experience with better daily comfort, newer tech, and the B58 which is more reliable than the S55.
plus with a stage 1 tune the M240i makes similar power to the M2 Comp stock. the B58 is a monster with just a flash.
If its your only car and you do 25k km/year, M240i is the smarter choice. The M2 Comp is more fun on a twisty road but the M240i is better at everything else.
The M2 Comp will also hold its value better though, so theres that to consider.
test drive both back to back. thats what I did and the M2 Comp won me over in 5 minutes. the steering, the chassis, the way it rotates - the M240i cant match it. yes its less comfortable but I dont care. I smile every time I drive it.
From a maintenance perspective, the M240i B58 is cheaper to run than the M2 Comp S55. The S55 needs more frequent oil changes, the turbos are more stressed, and parts are pricier.
But both are solid choices. You cant really go wrong here.
