My X5 E70 3.0d is having DPF issues. The car goes into limp mode during regen attempts. Dealer says the DPF is toast and needs replacement (2800 EUR).

Is it worth replacing at 180k km or should I just do a DPF delete? The car is worth maybe 12k EUR total so spending 2800 on a DPF seems crazy.

At 180k km, DPF delete makes more sense than replacement. The car isnt worth enough to justify a 2800 EUR DPF. Delete it and enjoy the car.

At 180k km on an E70, the DPF is probably toast. Replacing it with an OEM DPF for 2800 EUR on a 12k EUR car doesnt make financial sense. Your options are: 1) DPF delete with remap (500-700 EUR, not road legal), 2) Aftermarket DPF (1200-1500 EUR, cheaper but shorter lifespan), 3) Try chemical cleaning first (300 EUR, might work if the DPF isnt completely blocked). I would try cleaning first and if that fails, go with option 1 or 2 depending on your local laws.
