Can you retrofit ambient lighting on an E90? I know the F30 has it from factory but the E90 doesnt. Ive seen some LED strip kits on Amazon but they look cheap.
Anyone done a clean ambient lighting install on an E90? Want it to look OEM, not like a spaceship.
Yes its possible but its not a simple plug and play. The E90 didnt come with ambient lighting from factory so you need aftermarket LED strips. The best approach is fiber optic strips in the door panels and dashboard trim. You can get kits from AliExpress for about 50-80 EUR. Wiring them to dim with the dashboard lights takes some electrical knowledge though.
I installed the fiber optic ambient lighting kit on my E90. Took about 4 hours. The hardest part is routing the fiber through the door panels without kinking it. I connected it to the footwell light circuit so it turns on/off with the interior lights. Looks great at night, very OEM-like.
