G20 330i water pump failed at 55k km - anyone else?

Just had my 2020 G20 330i (B48) throw a coolant warning and overheat on the highway. Managed to pull over before any damage (hopefully). Towed to the dealer and they say the electric water pump failed.

The car is just out of warranty at 55k km. Dealer wants 1800 EUR for the repair. Is this a known issue with the B48? Seems way too early for a water pump to fail.

Anyone had luck getting BMW to cover this as goodwill?

Yeah the B48 water pump is a known weak point. Theres been a ton of failures reported around 50-70k km. The plastic impeller cracks.

Definitely push for goodwill coverage. BMW knows about this issue. Be polite but firm, mention that its a known design flaw and that 55k is unreasonable for a water pump failure.

We see these regularly. BMW updated the part number for the water pump, the newer revision is supposedly more durable. Make sure they install the updated version.

1800 EUR is about right for dealer pricing. An indie shop would do it for 900-1200 EUR.

same thing happened to my 330i at 62k. BMW covered 50% as goodwill after I complained. worth trying for sure. also check if your thermostat is ok, they often fail together

Update: called BMW customer service and they agreed to cover 60% of the cost! Apparently theres an internal bulletin about this. Thanks for the advice everyone
