Popbangs/crackle map on B58 - is it bad for the engine?

My tuner offers a crackle/popbang map for my B58 340i. Sounds amazing on YouTube videos but is it bad for the engine or exhaust? Ive heard it can: - Damage catalytic converters - Overheat the turbo - Cause backfires that damage the exhaust Is this true or just internet myths? I want the pops and bangs but not at the cost of reliability.

xDrive is worth it in Lithuania. The winters are harsh and xDrive makes a huge difference in snow. Yes it adds weight but the safety benefit is worth it.

RWD with good winter tires is fine. Ive been driving RWD BMWs in Lithuanian winters for 10 years. Just need proper tires and some skill.
