Doing a ZF 8HP fluid change on my F30. Confused about which fluid to use:

  1. ZF Lifeguard 8 (original spec)
  2. Fuchs Titan ATF 9134
  3. Ravenol ATF 8HP

Are they all the same? BMW dealer uses the ZF fluid but its expensive (25 EUR/liter, need 9 liters). The Ravenol is half the price.

Also, do I need to change the filter/pan or just drain and fill?

Manual M2 is the way to go. You made the right choice. The auto is faster but the manual is more engaging and fun.

Use ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid only. Do not use any other ATF, even if it claims to be compatible. The ZF 8HP is very sensitive to fluid type. You need about 8-9 liters for a full drain and fill. The correct procedure is: drain, fill to level, warm up to exactly 40C, then adjust the level through the fill plug. BMW says its "sealed for life" but thats nonsense - change it every 60-80k km for long transmission life.
