Preventative EGR cleaning every 60-80k km is a good idea on the B47/N47 diesels. Carbon buildup is gradual and by the time you notice symptoms (rough idle, loss of power, increased fuel consumption) its already pretty bad.
As for EGR delete - it depends on your country. In Germany its illegal and will fail TUV. In some other countries nobody checks. The benefit is cleaner intake, slightly better throttle response, and lower intake temps.
We recommend EGR cleaning at every major service (around 60k km intervals). Its a relatively cheap job - about 200-300 EUR at an indie shop.
The EGR valve itself can also fail mechanically. The actuator motor wears out and the valve gets stuck. At 110k km yours is probably due for at least an inspection.
if youre in a country where EGR delete is possible, its one of the best things you can do for a diesel BMW. the intake manifold stays clean, the engine runs cooler, and you eliminate a common failure point.
but be aware that a proper delete needs both the physical removal AND a software remap to avoid fault codes. just blanking the EGR without remapping will throw codes.
