My tuner asked me to read my ECU and send the file for remote tuning. He said I need an OBD tool like CMD Flash or KTag. These tools are expensive tho. Is there a cheaper way to read the ECU on a B47 engine?

Or should I just go to a local workshop that has the tools?

For B47, you need a bench tool like KTag or CMD Flash. OBD reading is not supported on newer diesel ECUs due to security. The tool rental option is your best bet if you dont want to buy one.

For the B47 engine, you need a tool that supports the Bosch MD1/MG1 ECU family. CMD Flash and Autotuner both work. KTag is bench-only, not OBD. The cheapest option is to ask your tuner if they have a loaner tool - many remote tuning services send you a pre-configured tool with instructions. You just plug it in, press read, and send the file. Much cheaper than buying your own tool.
