Transmission fluid change on ZF 8HP - sealed for life?

BMW says the ZF 8HP transmission is "sealed for life" and doesnt need fluid changes. But ZF themselves recommend changing the fluid every 80,000 km. Who do I believe? My F30 has 95,000 km and the transmission has never been serviced. Should I change the fluid now or leave it? Ive heard that changing fluid on a high mileage transmission that was never serviced can actually cause problems. Is this true?

I changed mine at 100k km and the difference was noticeable. Shifts were smoother and the transmission felt more responsive. Should have done it sooner.

Change the fluid! ZF recommends it for a reason. "Sealed for life" means "sealed for the life of the warranty." After 80k km the fluid degrades and shifts get rougher.

the myth about changing fluid on high mileage transmissions causing problems is mostly BS. as long as you use the correct fluid and do a proper drain and fill (not a flush), its fine
